Looking forward to seeing everyone at our meeting on Monday. Lynn will be talking about composition, Janette will be discussing how to get great waterfall images, and of course we will review our astrophotography images as well.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at our meeting on Monday. Lynn will be talking about composition, Janette will be discussing how to get great waterfall images, and of course we will review our astrophotography images as well.
We have scheduled our astrophotography night for Monday April 17. Meet at 8:15 at the Klondyke Soccer Field just south of Grand Bend off Highway 21. You can access Klondyke Road from either Highway 21 or from Greenway Road.
Remember to bring your tripod, wide-angle lens, flashlight, and warm clothes.
Set your lens to its widest aperture, set your shutter speed to 20 seconds, and then over a series of test shots adjust the ISO to obtain a good exposure.
Check the focus on your shot by zooming in on the playback review. If the stars appear to be moving then shorten your exposure time and increase the ISO to compensate.
Have fun
As Sharon and I work to update some of our webpages we have encountered some interesting items from the early days of the club. Here is one item from 2011. I will be posting more of these in the weeks to follow.
For a number of years the club participated in an environmental awareness event called Aquafest. One of the Aquafest events was a photo competition for which members of the club volunteered to organize and oversee. The competition became a major way for camera club members to show their work and a money-making venture for the club.
Thanks to Janette Baillie we have the following picture from the 2011 Aquafest. Co-chair Jennifer Mossop and Minister of the Environment John Wilkinson admiring the photos in the Aquafest Photo Contest hosted by the Port Franks Camera Club, August 5,6, & 7 2011. This event was held at the beautiful Grand Bend Yacht Club.
Due to the prediction on poor travel conditions our meeting tonight is cancelled. The presentations will be rescheduled for another day.
Remember to bring your tripod and macro or zoom lens. We will have a number of still life stations where you can play with composition, lighting, and depth of field.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at our first meeting of 2017. Please bring your camera as we will be learning about, playing with, and practicing focus. Our modern cameras have so many options that sometimes it is easier to just shoot in automatic rather than try to learn the details. This will a good opportunity to learn how your camera works best for you.
Thanks for following the Port Franks Camera Club website.
I have made a few changes to the website and added a gallery which provides the reader with the opportunity to view some of the recent images taken by our members. Click on the Gallery menu item when visiting the site or Click Here.
Suggestions and ideas are always welcome to help keep the website current, informative, and useful.

Watch for details coming in August on a new Scavenger Hunt for 2017. A teaser…this hunt will appeal to anyone who is both camera buff and bookworm.
Thanks to Lynn Wilbur and Trish Anderson for putting together the previous Scavenger Hunt that was based on songs.
We have some great summer themes coming up – Macro in July and Action in August. At our meeting on July 13 we will have Mel Diotte teach us about macro photography and have lots of time to practise. August 8 is the Exeter Rodeo which will provide a great venue for taking some real action shots. At our meeting on July 27th Lynn Wilbur will give us a heads-up on how to capture some great shots when we get to the Rodeo.
Getting ready for 2015.
We are just putting the finishing touches on our 2015 program and will announce it here before long.
Our general plan will be similar to 2014. The second Monday of the month will be our program meeting. In addition to a guest speaker we will have a 15 minute “Focus on Learning” session. This will be geared to our more novice photographers but should be a good refresher for our more experienced members.
Details to follow by the end of December.
Have a great Christmas and we will see you on January 12!
